26 June 1986Ernest N. DeLashmutt, 96, lifelong resident of the Onawa area, died June 8, 1986, at Burgess Memorial Hospital, Onawa, Iowa.
He was born May 26, 1890, in Lincoln Township near Onawa, to Nelson and Margaret (Telliaferro) DeLashmutt. On April 17, 1912, he married Ruth Beigel at Onawa. They farmed near Onawa until retiring in 1976.
He served on the Monona County Board of Supervisor and was active with the Little Sioux River project. He served on the Lincoln Township School Board, Monona County Rural Electrical Co-operative Board and Monona County Health Board.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth, three daughters, Mrs. Eleanor Hubbard of Onawa, Mrs. Vernon (Evelyn) Rock of Blencoe and Mrs. Dan (LaVonne) Anderson of Seattle, Wash., one sister, Mrs. Gertrude Dahl of Whiting, eight grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Charles Ernest, eight brothers and one sister.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, 1986, at Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa with Rev. Everett Epperson officiating. The organist was Mrs. E.A. Carlson and the soloist, Mrs. Fred Gibson, sang “How Great Thou Art.”
Casket bearers were Leland Allen, Vincent Willey, K.J. “Bus” Beedle, David DeLashmutt, Richard Stevenson and Jim Joines.
Interment was in the Onawa Cemetery, Onawa, Iowa with arrangements by Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa.
