Elsa Reineking DeVries of Sibley, Iowa, died on June 8, 1986, in Pleasant View Nursing home in Whiting, Iowa, following a brief illness. Death came at the age of 93 years, 3 months and 28 days.

She was born on February 11, 1893, in Town Herman, Sheboygan County, Wisconsin. Her parents were Frederick W. and Mary Arpke Reineking. She studied music and organ at Lakeland College in Wisconsin and in Sheboygan.

She married the Rev. John M. DeVries June 19, 1916, in Wisconsin. Rev. DeVries served pastorates in Early, Sibley and Allison, all in Iowa. He died October 29, 1952.

She was a member of Trinity Reformed Church in Sibley.

Survivors include three sons, Calvin of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, John of Red Bank, N.J. and Lorenz of Park Forest, Illinois; two daughters, Mrs. Willard (Esther) Top of Montgomery, Ala., and Mary Smith of Minneapolis; twelve grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one daughter, Ruth Huisman.

Funeral services were held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 11, 1986, at Trinity Reformed Church, Sibley, Iowa, with Rev. James Boogerd and Rev. Andrew B. Meyer officiating. The organist was Mrs. Andrew B. Meyer and the congregation sang. “How Firm A Foundation” and “Now Thank We All Our God.”

Casket bearers were Ted Schoon, George Schoon, Maynard Schutt, Marvin DeVries, Wayne Loerts and Henry Hilkema.

Interment was at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, 1986, at Allison Cemetery, Allison, Iowa, with Rev. Terry Muller officiating. Arrangements were by the Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa.
