Mary P. Lauritsen, 84, of Moorhead, Iowa, died June 13, 1986, at Burgess Memorial Hospital, Onawa, Iowa, after a brief illness.

The former Mary P. Petersen was born March 23, 1902, in St. Paul, Minnesota and came to rural Moorhead as an infant and was raised by Jens and Jorgena Petersen, and their two sons, Anton and Pete, after her mother died in childbirth. On April 2, 1919, she married Jens Jacob Lauritsen, at Onawa, Iowa. The couple farmed near Moorhead until 1939.

They moved into Moorhead where she operated Mary’s Beauty Shop until retiring. Mr. Lauritsen died January 19, 1976, in Onawa.

She was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church at Moorhead.

Survivors include two sons; Roy of Moorhead and Marvin of Cleveland, Tenn.; one half-sister, Lucille Loetz of Fort Collins, Colo., one half-brother, Lloyd Petersen of Boulder, Colo.; eight grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, six brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 16, 1986, at Bethesda Lutheran Church, Moorhead, Iowa, with Rev. Paul Birkedal officiating. The organist was Mrs. Dorothy Jepson. The congregation sang, “How Great Thou Art” and the organist played a Medley of Hymns.

Honorary bearers were Elmer Eskelsen, Chris Thogersen, Thorvald Petersen, Charles Sorensen and Robert Heck.

Casket bearers were Versel Knudsen, Glen Andrews, Jerry Hansen, Clifford Swenson, Virgil Johnson and Byron Messenbrink.

Interment was in the Ingeman Cemetery, Moorhead, Iowa, with arrangements by Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa.
