Otis A. McElwain, 81, 1535 N. Union St., died Tuesday, June 17, 1986, at the Skilled Care Center of Memorial Hospital of Dodge County. Mr. McElwain was the retired owner of McElwain Welding.
Mr. McElwain was born May 21, 1905, in Dunlap, Iowa. He grew up in the Moorhead-Onawa area of Iowa. He moved to Fremont in November 1942. He worked for the Mead Ordinance Plant until in 1945 when he purchased a blacksmith shop on West U.S. 30. Later he moved McElwain Welding to North U.S. 77. Before retiring a few years ago, he also owned a welding supply business.
Mr. McElwain was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Fremont Noon Optimist Club.
He married Helen Anderson September 26, 1933, in South Sioux City. She died April 23, 1980.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Darrell (Coleen) Seng of Lincoln; one sister, Erma Gray of Onawa, Iowa and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, June 19, 1986 at the First United Methodist Church. The Rev. Dr. Joe Scahill officiated. Visitation was at Ludvigsen Mortuary. Burial was in Memorial Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the church, the Noon Optimist Club or Fremont Nutrition Site No. 2.
