Charles D. 'Carl' Rieff, Onawa, died on May 24, 1986, at Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa following a long illness. He had reached the age of 62 years, 9 months, and 20 days.

He was born August 4, 1923, at Carroll, Iowa. He was the son of Albert D. and Mary Anna (Beisch) Rieff. On September 17, 1945, he married Frances A. Stangel at Onawa. He was an employee of the Monona County REC since 1949 and became the manager in 1969. He retired in August 1985.

Mr. Rieff was a member of St. John's Catholic Church and former member of the Knights of Columbus and Kiwanis Club of Onawa. He was a charter member of the Low Rent Housing Agency Board.

Survivors include his wife, Frances, of Onawa, two sons, Steven C. Rieff of Onawa, and Michael F. Rieff of Cedar Rapids, a daughter, Mrs. Pat (Jeanne) Engles of Auburn, Neb., three sisters, Evelyn and Marie Rieff, both of Chicago and Mrs. Lucille Freiman of Seminole, Fla., a brother, Paul of Des Moines, six grandchildren, a niece and a nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Funeral Mass was held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 27, 1986, at St. John's Catholic Church in Onawa with Mass Celebrant, Father Donald Smith. The Lector was Kenneth Stangel. The organist, Mrs. James Stangel, accompanied David Hausman who sang "Be Not Afraid" and "On Eagles Wings".

Bearers were Robert Stangel, James Stangel, Don Deen, Howard Rogers, Myron Johnson and Otis Denny.

Interment was in the Onawa Cemetery with arrangements by the Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa.
