Mrs. Shirley J Gran, 53, Soldier, Iowa, died May 12, 1986, at St. Luke's Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa, after a four year illness of cancer.

She was born July 1, 1932, in California to Sherman Hope Monnie and Alice May (Brakefield) Monnie, and came to Soldier in 1948. Shirley was baptized and confirmed at the Soldier Lutheran Church in 1949. On September 26, 1950, she married Merrill Gran at the Soldier Lutheran Church The couple farmed near Soldier.

She was a member of Soldier Lutheran Church and the Soldier Lutheran Church Women where she served in various offices. She taught Sunday School and Bible School and was congregational secretary for several years.

Survivors include her husband, Merrill; three daughters, Mrs. Leonard (Patty) Jensen of Soldier, Mrs. Glenn (Becky) Raymond of Sedona, Ariz., and Mrs. Jay (Teri) Schrimpf of Columbia. S.C., one son, Jim of Soldier, and ten grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Ruth Amundson of Soldier.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her step-father. R. Harold Amundson.

Services were held at 1 30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 14, 1986 at the Soldier Lutheran Church with Rev Larry Sydow officiating. Mrs. Ivan Gibbs, the organist, played the selection "Just As I Am."

Honorary Bearers were Glen Holverson and Gordon Swenson.

Active Bearers were Kenneth Lee, Gordon Foss, Roger McDole, Don Johnson, Clayton Swenson and Orvan Ulven.

Interment was in the Soldier Lutheran Cemetery with arrangements by the Pearson Funeral Home, Soldier, Iowa.
