Bernard Mahlon Arndt, 76, Onawa, Iowa, formerly of Blencoe, passed away March 20, 1983 at Burgess Memorial Hospital, Onawa, Iowa, after a long illness.

He was born August 24, 1906, in rural Blencoe to Herman and Christena Wiertz Arndt. He graduated from Blencoe High School. During World War II he served his country in the U.S. Army. He spent his life farming near Blencoe and moved to Onawa in 1960 when he retired from farming. He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church at Onawa.

Survivors include; three sisters, Mrs. Minette Hansen of Onawa, Mrs. Francis (Jane) Miles of Prescott, Arizona and Edna Arndt of Onawa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and one sister.

The Funeral Mass was held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 23, 1963 at St. John’s Catholic Church, Onawa, with Father Donald Smith, Mass Celebrant.

The organist was Mrs. James Stangel and the soloist was David Hausman.

Bearers were Mahlon Pekarek, Clarence Phillips, Lee Phipps, Ralph Phipps, Rogene Eisele and Royce Beck, Jr.

Interment was in the Onawa Cemetery with arrangements by the Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa.
