Daniel H. "Whitey" Mauch, age 45, of Castana, Iowa, died at Marian Health Center in
Sioux City, Iowa on Wednesday January 10, 1996 following a lengthy illness.

Mr. Mauch was born June 28, 1950, at Mapleton, Iowa, the son of Vernon H. and Evva (Greenough) Mauch. He attended various schools in the area. On December 8, 1980, he married Kaye L. Norby at Soldier. The couple made their home in Castana. He had been employed at Peters Construction Company and Mac's Chevrolet in Mapleton. For the past twenty years, he was employed as a mechanic at Heisterkamp L.T.D. in Onawa.

He was a member of the Soldier Lutheran Church at Soldier. He was a Boy Scout leader and was a member of the men's softball team at Castana.

He is survived by his wife, Kaye, of Castana; two sons, Jason and Josh, both of Castana; two grandchildren, Colby and Lorissa: his mother, Evva Mauch of Castana; two sisters, Dorothy and her husband, Lyle Hale of Dallas Center and Linda and her husband, Warren Kamm of Van Meter, Iowa: four brothers, Jim and his wife, Doris of Soldier, and Ron and his wife, Beth, Rusty and his wife, Faye, and Jerry, all of Castana; his mother-in-law, Elaine Amunson of Castana; as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Vernon Jr. in infancy.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 13, 1996, at Soldier Lutheran Church, Soldier, Iowa, with Rev. Shelley Aakre and Sister Marlys Becker officiating. The organist was Mrs. Leonard Jensen and the soloist, Mrs. Dennis Marcum, sang, "One Day At A Time" and 'The Rose."

Casketbearers were Charles Jon Hinrickson, Mike "Patch" Smeal, Gary Bellis, Charles Merritt, Eugene Greenough, and Earl Larson.

Interment was in the Soldier Lutheran Cemetery, Soldier, Iowa, with arrangements by Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa and Soldier, Iowa.
