LOCATION: Onawa, Iowa

Chester Elwood "Cork" Wright, 88, of Onawa, Iowa, passed from this world on Thursday, June 2, 2016 at Burgess Health Center in Onawa, surrounded by his family.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Monday, June 6, 2016 at the Rush Family Chapel, Onawa, Iowa, with Reverend Schadra MacClure and Pastor Michael Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in the Onawa Cemetery. Visitation will be held 10:00 A.M. until service time on Monday at the Chapel. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Chester Elwood was born May 3, 1928 in Onawa to Pete and Cora (Trimble) Wright. He was raised in Onawa and attended county school throughout his adolescent years.

Chester was united in marriage to Mary Margaret "Slim" Miller on March 1, 1952 in Onawa. They were blessed with two children, Steven and Susan. The couple celebrated 65 years of marriage before Slim passed away on June 15, 2008 in Onawa.

During his lifetime, he worked at Langren Elevator, for both Bus Beedle and Ross Garbage Service, and finally retired at age 85 while employed at the Monona County Transfer Station.

He enjoyed fishing and hunting in his younger years. Later in life, he enjoyed having coffee with his friends, taking drives through the country, animal watching, and listening to his radio. He was an active member of the Onawa Community, a volunteer firefighter and civil servant, and an active member of the First Christian Church.

Survivors include his children, Susan (Tim) Wyland and Steven Wright of Onawa, IA; seven grandchildren, Amy (Michael) Hall of Blencoe, IA, Carrie Pauley of Onawa, IA, Mary (Ryan) Clark of Apple Valley, MN, Vanessa, Mitchell, and Matthew Wright, all of Lincoln, NE, and Katie (KC) Mogensen of Onawa, IA; twenty-one great grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren; one brother, Don (Berniece) Wright of Onawa, IA; two sisters, Rose Perry and Margaret (Roger) Hall, all of Onawa, IA; four sisters-in-law, Phyllis Fegenbush of Whiting, IA, Wilma Johnson and Dianne (Harry) Struble of Onawa, IA, and Nellie Campbell of Oklahoma; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Pete and Cora Wright; his wife, Mary Margaret "Slim" Wright; three brothers, Albert, Jim, and Pete Wright; as well as numerous dogs that were his companions throughout his life.
