Samantha Jean "Sami" Berg was born on Dec. 31, 1991, in Onawa, Iowa, to Leonard and Jean (Teut) Berg. The family lived in Ute at the time of her birth. When she was 3 years old, they moved to Kiron. Sami attended kindergarten and first grade at Denison Community School. She then received her education through eighth grade at Schleswig, Iowa. She graduated with the class of 2010 from Denison High School. Sami advanced her education at Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge, Iowa. She worked at various jobs, the most current at Iron Mike's in Mapleton.

Sami was baptized at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ute. After moving to Kiron, she became a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Kiron, where she was confirmed. When she was 10 years old, her dad, Lenny Berg died in a tragic accident.

Sami was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. She loved being in the great outdoors, spending many hours fishing. Her pets were a very important part of her life. When she was younger, she had a pet Holstein calf, Peanut which was kept on her uncle Todd's farm. Her favorite childhood dog was her chocolate Lab from her childhood, Cocoa. Currently, Sami looked forward to coming home to her Maine Coon cat named Motor Mouth (MoMo for short), a black Lab named Boomer, and two rat terriers named Pongo and Toby.

With encouragement from her mom, Sami learned to love old time rock and roll; she knew all the words to the songs. She was musically talented, teaching herself how to play the piano and the electric guitar. She liked watching werewolf TV shows including Bitten and Twilight. She was also a huge Disney fan, her favorite character being Belle of Beauty and the Beast.

She was a talented artist, also self-taught. She was not a bird fan, but she loved owls and drawing owls. Her love of artwork was also evident on her tattoos. She and her mom, Jeanie were very close, and together they received Tiger Lilly tattoos, their favorite flower.

Family members left to treasure their memories of Sami are her mother, Jeanie Berg of Kiron; her maternal grandparents, Eldon and Creta Teut of Ute; three brothers, Cameron Blunk, living at home in Kiron, Brian Berg and his wife, Gina of Utah, and Tim Berg of Sioux City; a sister, Theresa Murray and her husband, Sean of Estes Park, Colo.; several aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, and good friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Leonard Berg, who passed away in 2002; an uncle, Ron Howe; a cousin, Joshua Howe, and her paternal grandparents.
