Joyce Alma Lundquist Skarin, 79, of Onawa, Iowa passed away on Friday, April 1, 2016 at Burgess Health Center in Onawa, Iowa surrounded by her loving family.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, April 6, 2016, at Rush Family Chapel in Onawa, Iowa with Pastor Tim Koehn, officiating. Burial will be in the Belvidere Cemetery, Turin, Iowa. Visitation will be 9:00 A.M. until service time on Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at Rush Family Chapel in Onawa, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, Iowa.

Joyce Alma was born May 10, 1936 in Paullina, Iowa the daughter of Chester and Marie (Swabach) Lundquist. She was raised in the Paullina area where she attended country school and then Paullina Public School. She was employed at the Mental Health Institute in Cherokee, Iowa where she met her future husband, Lester Skarin, who was also employed there.

Joyce and Lester Skarin were united in marriage on October 12, 1956 in Cherokee, Iowa. They lived in Cherokee until moving to Onawa, Iowa. Three children were born to this union, Roxanne, Kimberly, and Jimie. Lester preceded her in death on March 6, 1990. She dearly missed her husband and thought about him every day.

Joyce was employed by Monona County Public Health until her retirement in 1998.
She loved flower gardening and had a beautiful flower garden. She also loved reading, puzzles, and fishing. She sewed and knitted clothes for her children and grandchildren. She loved visiting with her friends. She always smiled and had a naughty story to share. She was always very active and busy. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them. Although she was small in stature she had a huge heart full of love, caring, and fun.
She attended the Onawa Evangelical Free Church in Onawa, Iowa.

Survivors include her three children, Roxanne Vaughn of Onawa, IA, Kimberly (Clint) Clemon of Wahoo, NE, and Jimie Skarin of Las Vegas, NV; grandchildren, Camille Clemon, Cassie Jansen, Jacob Jansen, Alli Clemon, Austin Clemon, Emily Vaughn, and Joshua Vaughn; great-grandchildren, Alyssa Vaughn and Jaxson Wolterman; brothers, Doug Lundquist and Gerald Lundquist both of Paullina, IA; sisters, Jeannine "Tillie" Litka of Sutherland, IA and Constance "Connie" Schaa of Longmont, CO; and her beloved dog and companion, Annie May.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lester; brothers, Junior Lundquist and Delton Lundquist; and a son-in-law, John Vaughn.
