Howard J. Uhl, 95, of Hampton, passed away, Wednesday, April 6, at the Franklin Country View Nursing Facility in Hampton.

Howard was born Oct. 25, 1920, in Mapleton, to Jesse and Eleanor (Schleis) Uhl. He graduated from Maple Grove Country School in Mapleton.

Howard served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He married Beverly Ownes on Jan. 12, 1947, in Ute. She passed away Aug. 31, 1983, and then he married Delores Larson on Oct. 6, 1984, in Mapleton.

Howard worked with heavy equipment most of his life, building interstate highways. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and American Legion. Howard enjoyed gardening, reading and music.

Survivors include his wife, Delores of Hampton; daughters, Connie Lynne Uhl (Rand Hill) of Redmond, Ore., and Lori Uhl (Bob Harms) Sioux City; sons, Randy (Shirley) Uhl of Ellensburg, Wash.; Doug (Brenda) Uhl in Orange City; grandchildren, Carrina (Uhl) Huss, Janessa Capper Uhl, Darin Uhl, Tyler Delashmatt, Ashley Uhl; stepson, Jerry (Teresa) Jensen of Charles City; stepson, Jeff (Patty) Jensen of Alexander; stepson, Scott (Joni) Jensen of Alexander; stepdaughter, Sheryl (Jay) Schumann of Hampton; 14 step-grandchildren; 20 step-great-grandchildren; sisters, Katherine (Gail) Cadwell of Fairoak, Calif., Lucille (Arlie) Larson of Smithland, Phylis (Vince) Ahart of Coon Rapids, Minn.; brothers, Richard (Jane) Uhl of Pickerington, Ohio, Lawrence Uhl of Sparta, N.C., Gary (Jeannie) Uhl of Eckhart.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Beverly; brothers, Clyde and Paul; and sisters, Darlene, Joy, and Carol.

Services will be held Saturday, April 16, at 11 a.m., at the Armstrong Funeral Home. Family will greet friends from 10 a.m., until service time on Saturday at the Armstrong Funeral Home.

Burial will take place at the Mt. Hope cemetery in Mapleton.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Hampton Senior Center or a charity of your choice.
