2 March 2016Robert Walter Nagel, Sr., son of Walter L. and Florence B. (Barnes) Nagel, was born September 21, 1938 at Sioux City, IA. He entered into eternal rest on Monday, February 22, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, IA at the age of 77.
During Bob’s early years, his family made their home in several towns surrounding Onawa. When the family moved to the Whiting Farm, Bob attended school at Whiting and in later years attended Onawa schools. He then enlisted in the United States Air Force. While in the military, he completed his high school education. Bob retired from the Air Force in November of 1975 and during his military career he was the recipient of many medals and honors.
On June 7, 1958, Bob was united in marriage to Dorothy Gill in Dover, DE. To this union three children were born: Elizabeth Lynn, Debra Lorraine and Robert W., Jr. Bob and Dorothy later divorced.
After retiring from the military, Bob made his home in Tacoma, WA and he owned Nagel Construction. Bob married Lynne Cappan and became a father figure to her daughter, Davlyne. In 1993, Bob and Lynne moved to Onawa and she passed away in March of 2002. Before his retirement, Bob owned B&B Construction in Onawa.
On October 27, 2007, Bob was united in marriage to Robin Melton. They made their home in Onawa and spent time at their farm in NW Iowa.
Bob was a member of the American Legion and VFW and numerous fishing and hunting clubs. In his younger years, he enjoyed camping and bowling. Bob loved to hunt, fish and sit around and tell stories.
Bob is survived by his wife, Robin of Ocheyedan, IA; his children: Elizabeth Lynn Richards of Tacoma, WA, Debra (Kenny) Whedbee of Interlachen, FL, Robert W., Jr. (Robin) Nagel of Ava, MO, and Davlyne (David) Daly of Lakewood, WA; three stepchildren: Ana Fielding of Sioux Falls, SD, Chris Barnett of Ocheyedan, IA and Missy (Nick) Holbrook of Ashton, IA; 9 grandchildren; 6 step grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; one sister, Loretta Kelly of Fredericksburg, VA; and many nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; second wife, Lynne; two brothers: Richard Nagel and Ray Nagel; one brother-in-law, Glenn Kelly; a nephew, Butch Nagel and son-in-law, Owen Richards.
