Funeral services for E.H. “Ed” Armstrong, 62 years old, Mapleton farmer who passed away Monday afternoon following a heart attack, were held Wednesday afternoon at 3 o’clock in the Methodist Church. Rev. H.J. Bane, pastor of the church officiated.

Interment was in Mt Hope cemetery under the direction of the Duschl Funeral home in Mapleton. Members of the Masonic Lodge were in charge of services at the graveside.

Miss Arlene Patrick, Miss Evelyn Patrick, Mrs. W.G. Sanford and Mrs. Bane sang “Lead Kindly Light,” “Crossing The Bar” and “Abide With Me.” They were accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Russell McVicker.

John Theobald, Edward Struble, W.E. Martindale, Harvey Riley, Archie Baker and Doyle Sisson served as pallbearers.

Edward Hugh Armstrong was born in Adams County near Hastings, Nebraska, November 15, 1877. He grew to manhood near Hastings. His father passed away in 1891 and in 1902 he moved with his mother and family to Sloan, Iowa. His mother passed away in 1921.

He was married to Miss Agnes Malada, March 20, 1907. They established their home at Sloan, moving to a farm near Mapleton in 1914. They have resided there since.

Mr. Armstrong joined the United Brethren Church when a boy and later placed his membership at Sloan. In 1914 he joined the Methodist Church here. He served on the official board of the church and had always been a loyal member. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge.

Mr. Armstrong always took an active part in community affairs, especially those pertaining to farm interests. He was an excellent man, who was not afraid to stand for the right. He had been in ill health the last few years, but had been as well as usual the last few months and greatly enjoyed meeting and visiting with his friends and neighbors. He was called to one of his neighbors Monday on an errand and while visiting there had the heart attack, passing away suddenly.

He is survived by his wife, two children, Mrs. Hazel Dietrich and Ralph Armstrong, both living near Mapleton and six grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Henry Mennenga of Denver, Colorado and five brothers, Mitchell Armstrong of Kokomo, Colorado, Oscar Armstrong of Beatrice, Nebraska, Tom Armstrong of Hornick, Clyde Armstrong and Charles Armstrong of Sloan.
