Augusta “Agnes” Armstrong, the daughter of James and Florette Malada, was born June 8, 1883, in Attica, Indiana. She died May 28, 1966 at Sioux City, Iowa, after a lengthy illness, at the age of 82 years, 11 months and 20 days.

Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 31, 1966, at St. John’s Methodist church in Mapleton. Rev. Leonard W. Rowse officiated. Interment was in Mt. Hope Cemetery under direction of the Walter Funeral Service.

Pallbearers were Glenn Corbin, Laverne Palmer, Glenn Martindale, Lee Irwin, Merle Davis and Everett Johnson.

Mrs. Armstrong lived in Indiana until 1893, when as a young girl she came to Sloan, Iowa with her parents. She graduated from Morningside College in Sioux City and taught in the rural Sloan Schools. She lived in Sloan area until a few years after her marriage, when she and her family moved to Mapleton, where she resided the remainder of her life. She married Edwin Armstrong on March 20, 1907 in Mapleton. Two children were born to this union.

She belonged to the Methodist Church, the WSCS and the Civic Club in Mapleton.

Survivors include her daughter, Mrs. Christian (Hazel) Dietrich of Hornick one son, Ralph of Mapleton; 9 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband
