Roy J Sweet, 82, of Sioux City and former Mapleton resident died Sunday September 14, at a Sioux City hospital after a long illness.

Mr. Sweet served as field representative, farm manager and business manager at Morningside College from 1936 until his retirement in 1953. He was in the banking business at South Shore, S.D. and was associated with the Mapleton Trust and Savings bank here before going to Sioux City in 1925.

Mr. Sweet was born October 3, 1875 at Glencoe, Minn. When he was a child his parents lived a short time in Illinois before moving to Woodbine, Iowa. He was married to Clara Estella Anderson November 29, 1899 at Mapleton. Mr. and Mrs. Sweet celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1949.

He was active in the work of Grace Methodist Church, was a member of the Morningside College board of trustees and the board of Helping Hand Mission. He was a member of Morningside Lodge 615 AF&AM and received his 50-year Masonry certificate in 1954. He also was a member of the O.E.S. Morningside chapter.

Survivors are the widow; a son, Charles LeRoy of Boulder City, Nev., a daughter, Mildred Sweet of Spencer, Iowa; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, a brother, Guy, of Decatur, Nebr. a sister, Mrs. Claud Edgerton of Baton Rouge, La., two half sisters, Mrs. J.C. Thurman of East Gary, Indiana and Mrs. John Wolters of Dolton, Illinois.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, September 17 at the W Harry Christy funeral home in Morningside, Rev. Arthur Kindred officiating with burial in Mount Hope Cemetery in Mapleton.
