Esther Albertsen, age 96, of Mapleton died Thursday, August 15, 1996 at a Sioux City hospital.

Services were held 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Mapleton, with Rev. Karen Handke officiating. Burial was in Mount Hope Cemetery, Mapleton. Naomi Kahrs was the organist for the service and Roger Hladik, the soloist. Music was "How Great Thou Art" and "Whispering Hope". A prayer service was held at 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the Armstrong Chapel in Mapleton.

Esther was born December 24, 1899, south of Charter Oak, Iowa, the daughter of Hartwig and Mary (Rabe) Neubaum. As a young child she moved with her parents to a farm south of Ute, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Rudolph Albertsen on October 12, 1920 in Dakota City, Nebraska. The couple farmed near Mapleton. In 1944 the couple moved north of Smithland. In 1960 the couple moved into Mapleton. Her beloved husband died on October 9, 1985.

Esther was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ and the Women's Fellowship of the church.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Stodden of Mapleton; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Edna Fish of Canton, South Dakota, Clara Carritt of Ute and Ruth Outhouse of Woodbine, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sons, Loren and Willis, one son-in-law, Fred Stodden, two grandsons, two great-grandsons, one brother and one sister.

Pallbearers were Dale Campbell, Wayne Gosch, Warren Albertsen, Herman Bockelman, Glenn Marsh and John Wooster, Sr.

Arrangements were made under the direction of the Armstrong Funeral Home of Mapleton.
