Andrew D. "Bud" O'Neal, 77, of rural Whiting, Iowa, died Thursday, January 7, 2016 at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, where he was a resident.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at the United Methodist Church in Onawa, Iowa, with Pastor Dennis Burns officiating. Burial will follow in the Whiting City Cemetery in Whiting. Visitation will be held 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. Monday, January 11, 2016 at the Rush Family Chapel in Onawa with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Andrew D. "Bud" O'Neal was born July 12, 1938 on the family farm near Shannon City, Iowa. He was the third child born to Andrew W. and Cora (Kirkman) O'Neal. In February of 1940, the family moved to rural Onawa. Bud attended Ashton #2 country school and graduated from Whiting High School in 1956. He was active in athletics and 4-H while in school.

After graduation, he joined the United States Air Force and was stationed in Minot, North Dakota and Ankara, Turkey. He was honorably discharged after four years of service. When he returned home from the military, he began farming with his father.

Bud and Patricia Hilsinger were united in marriage on February 2, 1960 in South Sioux City, Nebraska. To this union, six children were born.

In 1975, Bud's father retired and he took over the farming operation. In 1979, Bud's son Dennis joined him in farming. Due to health issues, Bud retired in 2000.

Bud had a love for the land and farming. Although he was retired, he was never far from the farming operation. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, and socializing with his friends. Bud and Pat loved to travel and went on several wonderful vacations together.
Survivors include his children, Dennis (Amy) O'Neal of Whiting, IA, Kim Boisen of Whiting, IA, Kristy (Paul) Blake of Denver, CO, Karyn (Jeff) Berres of Denver, CO, and Kysa Krohnke of Pisgah, IA; 18 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Clara Jean Hanline and Doris (Bill) Davis, both of Onawa, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew W. and Cora O'Neal; his wife, Patricia O'Neal on December 23, 2013; and one son, Jeffrey L. O'Neal.
