A.H.DAVIS PIONEER PASSES

BORN ON THE OLD DAVIS HOMESTEAD NEAR ARCOLA NEARLY 65 YEARS AGO

Funeral services were held from the Community Church at Castana last Thursday afternoon with Mr. Perrin officiating. Burial was made in Castana cemetery, in Kennebec Township.

Arthur H. Davis was born at the old Davis homestead in Arcola, August 10, 1807, and passed away on his farm just one half mile south of his birth place, July 20, 1932, being at the time of his death 64 years, 11 months and 10 days of age.

Most all of his life was spent in the vicinity of Arcola with the exception of two years when he was in college at Knoxville and Shenandoah, Iowa, one and one half years on a ranch near Woodlake, Neb., and two years on a homestead near Kennebec, South Dakota.

He was marred in December, 1901, to Miss Jean Hanscom, of Castana, and to this union one son was born. Mrs. Davis passed away in the Battle Creek hospital in November, 1909. Mr. Davis was again united in marriage in January, 1911, to Minnie C. Maple, of Des Moines who with Watson, the son, survive him. Other near relatives who are left to mourn his sudden summons are his sister Mrs. Ella Hoadley, of Nebraska; two grandsons, Gerald and Gene Davis, of Areola; four nieces and one nephew.

"Art", as he was generally known, was a good, clean man, and in his home was always kind and devoted He was a great reader and a lover of good literature. His love of humor was an outstanding characteristic, and he was never happier than when playing a good clean Joke on his friends. He was fond of athletics and in former years took an active part in baseball, being a pitcher of some renown.

He was honest and fair in his business dealings and was always a trustworthy friend. He held many township offices and was a member of the school board for years. He was a member of the Woodman Lodge and also of the K. & P. and I. O. O. F. at one time.

He was ill only a few hours and his death came as a great shock to the entire community who feel that they have lost a good friend and neighbor.

'And we hope someday to meet him When we leave our house of clay And be joyous, aye forever, In that land of perfect day!."

Funeral services were held from the Community Church at Castana last Thursday afternoon with the Brown Funeral home in charge.
