RODNEY OLD SETTLER DIED THERE MONDAY

S. P. Jensen aged 63, a pioneer of Rodney died there suddenly at noon Monday. Funeral services are being held this afternoon at the Rodney Congregational church with burial in the Grant cemetery.

Soren Peter Jensen was born in Denmark Jan. 18, 1869. He was baptized and belonged to the Danish Lutheran church. He came to this country in 1890 residing at Omaha, Nebr. He was married to Laura Jensen and to this union were born nine children, one passing away in infancy.

In 1894 they moved to Rodney, la. where he and his brother-in-law J. Christensen started a blacksmith shop in which he was engaged until 1918.

He had been in ill health for the past three years, passing away Monday morning, Aug. 15, 1932, at the age of 63 yrs, 6 mos., and 28 days.

He leaves to mourn his loss his wife Laura Jensen and eight children Arthur at home; Katherine Rudbeck, Chris M., Einer J , Anna Nickolisen all of Rodney, Bruce J. of Newark, New Jersey; Ellen Rogers of Atlantic, la., and Edna of Sioux City, and eight grandchildren, also two brothers and one sister, who resides in Denmark, besides numerous other relatives and friends.

Although Mr. Jensen had been in ill health for 3 years he was able to be up and about, but on Monday was seized with a heart attack and died very suddenly. Mr. Jensen had lived in this community for over 40 years and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon in the Congregational church with Rev. A. B. Schwertz of the Trinity Lutheran church in Sioux City officiating. The beautiful hymns were rendered by Eva Claire Canterbury of Sioux City. The four sons and two sons-in-law acted as pallbearers.

The body was laid to rest in the Grant cemetery with F. J. Willman undertaker in charge.

Those from out of town who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. P. Green, Mr. and Mrs. A. N. Jensen of Brookings, S. D, Mrs. N. Christensen of White, S. D. and Mr. any Mrs. L. J. Voss of Rockwell City, la.
