Eliza Jane Bishop, daughter of John and Rachel Bishop, was born in DeKalb county, Missouri, about 1834 or 35, the exact date of her birth is not certain.

Before the Civil war she was united in marriage to Henry Huffman who at the outbreak of the rebellion joined the cause of the Union. He died some 33 or 35 years ago.

Mrs. Huffman had lived in her present home over 30 years.

On Sunday, July 17th, she fell fracturing her hip. Despite her advanced years her rugged constitution withstood the seriousness of her injury but the end came peacefully on Wednesday shortly after noon.

During her last illness she was attended by her nieces and nephews, the sons and daughters of her brothers and sisters. They are John Riley, Sylvester Stucker, Mrs. Nelle Morehead, Henry Riley, Will Riley, Bert Riley all of Onawa, Geo. Riley of Salix, Mrs. John Stucker of Little Sioux, Mrs. Stella Dennis of Blencoe, Floyd Bishop, Mrs. Clara Burdick, Mrs. Minnie Sheridan, Robert Bishop, Jess Bishop, Mrs. .Pearl Craighead, Clarence Bishop and Monroe Bishop of Sioux City. She is also survived by many other grandnieces and grandnephews. She was the last of the Bishop family.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon, Aug. 1 at the Christian church in charge of Rev. Miller of Sloan. Burial was made in the Onawa cemetery.

Aunt Jane, by which Mrs. Huffman was so well known by hey friends, nearly reached the century mark in the span of life, practically twice the normal lifetime. Her long life symbolized the simplicity exemplified by the early pioneers who were satisfied with the common things in life.
