Hold services in Cresco, Iowa for former resident

Mary C. Mohrhauser, age 91 of Cresco passed away Monday, June 30, 2003 at the Patty Elwood Center in Cresco, Iowa, of complications of Alzheimers. She had requested her body to be donated to the University of Iowa College of Medicine.

Services were held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, July 3 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Cresco, Iowa, with Father Henry Charipar officiating. The lector was Sister Mary Hargrafen, the organist was Marilyn Novak and the soloist was Marcia Murray.

Mary was born January 31, 1912, the ninth of twelve children to Theodore and Ottilia (Schoenherr) Schleimer, on the parental farm west of Mapleton, Iowa. The family later moved to the farm on the hill with the water tower, on the edge of Mapleton. She attended St. Mary's Catholic School in Mapleton. Mary was joined in marriage to George Mohrhauser, February 3, 1932. To this union was born five children, Marian Applen, Darlene Perry, Beverly Wilson, Joan Wernett, and Wayne Mohrhauser.

George and Mary's marriage lasted 62 years until the death of George in May of 1994.

She was a member of the St. Joseph's Altar Society.

Mary had a love of gardening, (flowers especially), crocheting, and spending time with her family. Her many jobs included cooking in the local cafes, which she did for 35 years, known for her pies and the ability for "telling it like it is". Mary retired at the age of 72 to care for her ailing husband.

Mary resided at the Patty Elwood Care Facility since December 26, 2000.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her daughter, Marian, grandson, Shawn Ehlert, her parents, and all of her sisters and brothers.

Surviving are children, Darlene Perry of Cresco, Beverly and Norbert Wilson of Atwater, California, Joan Wernett of Cresco, Wayne and Dawn Mohrhauser of Rochester, Minnesota; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; five sisters-in-law, Magdalena Pollock, Ellie Mohrhauser, Adeline Mohrhauser, Bernadine Mohrhauser, Frances Schleimer; two brothers-in-law, Lawrence McGrain and Richard Mohrhauser, both of Mapleton; plus many nieces and nephews.

Casketbearers were grandchildren.
