Another Pioneer Claimed by Death
Funeral Services Tuesday For John Lee, Long Time
Mapleton Resident

Funeral services for John Lee , 74 years old and a resident of this community for 36 years, who passed away at his home here Sunday morning, were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Methodist church with Rev. A . F. Schuldt, pastor of the church in charge.

Interment was in Mt. Hope cemetery under the direction of the Byers Funeral home.

Mapleton business houses were closed from 2 o'clock until 3 o'clock in memory of Mr. Lee, a veteran businessman.

Robert Jones of Ute, John Lee of Cleghorn, Veryl Lee, Francis Lee, Darrell Lee and Stewart Lee, all of Battle Creek, and all grandsons, served as pallbearers.

Mr. Lee, son of Cyrus and Alvlra Lee, was born March 28, 1862, in Switzerland County, Indiana, near Fairview. He grew to manhood in that community and was married to Miss Lorena May Richmond July 3, 1881 at Fairview.

They came to Iowa in 1884, locating at Hamburg, in 1901—35 years ago, they moved to the Mapleton community. After residing several years on farms, they moved to Mapleton and Mr. Lee operated a meat market. In later years he operated a cafe and cleaning shop here. Ho had served as a councilman and also as city assessor.

Mrs. Leo preceded him in death 12 years ago.

Mr. Lee was a man of sterling character, a friend of all who knew him and a splendid neighbor. He was a member of the Methodist church. His health had been falling during the last 4 years, but did not become alarming until 10 days ago when he suffered a stroke.

He is survived by two daughters , Miss Rose Lee of Mapleton and Mrs. O. W Jones of Ute, four sons, Frank Lee of Battle Creek, Ralph Lee of Mapleton, George Lee of Cushing and Robert Bruce Lee of Rawlins, Wyo. He also is survived by one sister, Mrs. Martin Turner of Rising Sun, Ind., one brother. Dan Lee of Clarksburg, Ore.,14 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
