UTE, Iowa -- Margie E. Pithan, 95, of Ute died Wednesday, July 9, 2008, at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Charter Oak, Iowa, with the Rev. Donald Slaven officiating. Burial will be in St. Clair Cemetery, Ute. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present 4 to 8 p.m., a vigil wake service at 7 p.m. and a rosary at 8 p.m., at Armstrong Funeral Home, 501 South Day Ave., in Ute. Visitation will resume 9 a.m. until service time Friday at the church.

Margie Elizabeth (Shanahan) Pithan was born Dec. 25, 1912, the daughter of William and Mary (Cronin) Shanahan. She was born on a farm south of Ute. She attended St. Boniface School and graduated from Ute High School. She then attended Morningside College in Sioux City and received her teacher's certificate. She worked in Denison.

On Feb. 26, 1935, she married Raymond Pithan at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ute. The couple farmed from 1935 until they retired in 1969 and moved into town.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ute and St. Mary's Rosary Society. She was a wonderful cook and homemaker. She made beautiful quilts for all the family. The couple loved to go dancing and to the casino.

Survivors include her three children, Frances Barnett of Ute; two sons and their wives, Jim and Shari and Tom and Linda, all of Ute; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond; a son, Robert; two grandsons, Roger and Rodney Barnett; a brother, Vincent; and two sisters, Loretta Seufert and Marie Shanahan.

She had a great sense of humor and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
