ONAWA, Iowa -- Richard Lee Collett, 78, of Onawa died Tuesday, July 1, 2008, at his home surrounded by his family.

Richard's request was to have no service. Private burial will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Richard was born Feb. 24, 1930, at his home, the son of William A. and Sadie I. (Roberts) Collett. He was a lifelong resident of Onawa, where he was a self-employed carpenter.

Richard and Betty Flint were united in marriage on Oct. 18, 1952, at the Christian Church in Onawa.

He was a member of First Christian Church. Richard lived life to its fullest and enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, birds, nature, family and eating out at the casino.

Survivors include his wife, Betty of Onawa; a son and his wife, Gregory and Peggy Collett of Onawa; grandchildren, Melissa Gaukel (David), Stephanie Blatchford (Jason), Kasey Collett, Lyse Yanke (Allen), all of Onawa, and Laura B. Davis (Mike) of Colorado; great-grandchildren, Jasmine and Joslin Gaukel, Tanner and Landon Blatchford, Parker Davis, Seth and Jessica Phipps and Connor and Aubrey Yanke; and four sisters, Alice Conway of Whiting, Iowa, Mary Watts, Glenna Davis (Richard) and Connie Rodgers, all of Louisiana.

He was preceded in death by a son, Richard L. Collett Jr.; his parents; seven brothers, Paul A., William A., Robert, his twin, Raymond B., Max E., Donnie and James D.; two half brothers, Jack Davis and Leo Jividen; a sister, Norma R. Cartmill; and two half sisters, Harriett Hummelgaard and Gertrude Bedford.
