Charles Leland Wightman, 86, of Tehachapi, Calif., passed away on Sunday, Nov. 16, at his residence.

Charlie was born on Sept. 23, 1928, in Oakland. The family later moved to Mapleton where he graduated from high school. He attended Wayne State College at Wayne, Neb., and the New York Institute of Photography. Later he enlisted in the Marines.

After he was discharged from the Marines, Charlie joined the 174th Fighter Interceptor Squadron of the Air National Guard in Sioux City. He then attended a Gunsmithing School in Colorado.

Upon moving to California, he graduated from California State University of Los Angeles where he taught middle school industrial arts. Upon retirement, he pursued his love for the out-of-doors. He was an avid sportsman, hunter, and horseman.

He is survived by two daughters, Monica (David) Arana of Burbank, Calif., and Chimene (Nick) Martin of Pasadena, Calif.; one granddaughter, Ruby Arana of Burbank; brothers, Rodney of Tehachapi, Calif., Richard (Virginia) of Sioux City, Bruce (Jean) of White Bear Lake, Minn., Rae (Bill) Kugler of Wayne, Neb., and Logene (Ray) Anderson of Sheldon.

He was preceded in death by his parents, L.B. and Inga Wightman.
