WHITING, Iowa -- Rex L. Kelley, 78, a lifelong resident of the Whiting community, died Thursday, June 20, 2002, at a Sioux City hospital following a lengthy illness.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Monday in Onawa Cemetery, Onawa, Iowa, with the Rev. Charles Layton of Onawa Methodist Church officiating. The body was cremated. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City.

Mr. Kelley was born Sept. 11, 1923, in Blencoe, Iowa, to Harry and Mary (Whiteman) Kelley. He was a lifelong farmer and also drove a school bus for the Whiting School District for 40 years.

He married Frances Butters on Sept. 10, 1983, in Whiting.

He was a member of Weston Lodge 562 A.F. & A.M. of Whiting. He coached Little League baseball for several years.

He is survived by his wife, Frances; a daughter and her husband, Rhonda and Ray Gibler of Arvada, Colo.; a son, Randy Kelley of Denver, Colo.; a brother and his wife, Bill and Bonnie Kelley of Onawa; two sisters, Liz Danford and Pat Rowe, both of Whiting; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Gene, Leslie, Junior and Everett Kelley; and three sisters, Bea Lynn, Winifred Kelley and Frances Huff.

Memorials in his name may be directed to Hospice of Siouxland.
