BLENCOE, Iowa -- Hugh G. Gray Jr., 76, of Blencoe died Sunday, July 7, 2002, at his residence following a lengthy illness.

Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Blencoe United Church of Christ. Burial will be in Onawa Cemetery, Onawa, Iowa. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Hugh was born May 1, 1926, in Blencoe, the son of Hugh and Clara (Carlson) Gray. He graduated from Blencoe High School in 1944. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1944 and served in Europe during World War II. After being honorably discharged from the Army, he attended Iowa State University for one year. He then engaged in farming with his father near Blencoe.

He was an active and responsible citizen serving on several boards, including the Blencoe Co-op and Blencoe State Bank. He was a member of Blencoe United Church of Christ, American Legion Stevens-Kelly Post 665 and a 50-year member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2694 of Monona County.

He will be greatly missed and survived by three nieces, Mary Lynne and her husband, Stan Gruhn of Janesville, Wis., Judith and her husband, Ed Hackman of Wahoo, Neb., and Amy Jo Reimer-Meyer of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and a nephew, Dr. Robert Reimer of Helena, Mont.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mary Ann Gray Reimer.
