WHITING, Iowa -- Netterina M. "Nettie" Moon, 104, of Swansea, Ill., formerly of Whiting, died Saturday, June 22, 2002, at Swansea Care Center.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Pearson Funeral Home in Onawa, Iowa, with Rev. Rusty Hedger officiating. Burial will be in the Whiting Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Nettie was born prematurely on June 4, 1898, in Winslow, Iowa, the daughter of Andrew and Wilhelmina "Minnie" (Miller) Hook. The doctor told her parents, "Be good to her; she will not be with us long." As a young child, her family moved to Tracy, Minn., where Nettie had a happy childhood on the farm. She attended "town school" in Tracy and graduated from Tracy High School in 1918, a great source of pride for her. In her youth, Nettie was an accomplished piano player and worked for two years in a sheet music store demonstrating melodies for customers.

On February 21, 1920, she married Raymond C. Moon in Tracy, Minn., and began farming and raising their two daughters. They moved to the Whiting area in March 1932 and farmed until 1946. Raymond died March 21, 1979, at the Onawa hospital. Nettie lived in Whiting until 1999.

She enjoyed tatting, playing cards, and dearly loved dancing, gardening, cats and spending time with her family and friends. Nettie was shy, mild-mannered, and good-natured with seldom a harsh word. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. In her later years, Nettie delighted in reminiscing about her childhood in Minnesota and her life as a farmer's wife, always ending with "yes, I've had a good life."

Survivors left to cherish her memory include her daughter and son-in-law, Marjorie and Joseph C. Schinner of Swansea, Ill.; eight grandchildren, Joseph R. Schinner and his wife, Debbie, of Hilliard, Ohio, Maureen Lougeay and her husband, Daniel, of Fairview Heights, Ill., Teresa Schinner of Belleville, Ill., Kathleen "Kate" Mueller of Okawville, Ill., Michael Schinner and his wife, Janet, of Belleville, Ill., Connie Tims of Kaukauna, Wis., Becky Lee and her husband, Dale, of St. Peters, Mo., and Christopher Tims of Antioch, Tenn.; 12 great-grandchildren, Pamela, Joseph F., Katie, and Emily Schinner, all of Hilliard, Ohio, Jennifer Chapman and her husband, Scott, of Tacoma, Wash., Curt Lougeay and his wife, Michelle, and Sarah Lougeay, all of Fairview Heights, Ill., Joseph E., Michael, and Christopher Schinner, all of Belleville, Ill., Dale Lee, Jr. and Jeffrey Lee, both of St. Peters, Mo.; a great-great-granddaughter, McKinzie Lee; a loving extended family, Dawne and Chris Miller and Anthony Suarez; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Alice Marie Tims; a sister, Veronica Moon; a brother, Harold Hook; and an infant granddaughter, Marjorie Melinda Schinner.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, Iowa, or Swansea Care Center in Swansea, Ill.
