SLOAN, Iowa -- Duane Myron Bromander of Sloan died Wednesday, June 26, 2002, at his residence of cancer.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Evangelical Covenant Church in Sloan, with Pastor Richard Moore officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Township Cemetery at Albaton, Iowa. He will be carried to the cemetery by his horses. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m, at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, Iowa.

Duane was born September 21, 1931, at Sioux City, the son of Elmer and Edith (Anderson) Bromander. He was raised in the Sloan and Albaton area and graduated from Sloan High School in 1950. He attended Iowa State University and also Morningside College. He was married to Mary Jane Rude March 11, 1956, in the Swedish Covenant Church in rural Sloan. He was a farmer and worked at Woodbury County Soil Conservation Service, Sloan Elevator, Farmland and AGP.

He was a member of the Evangelical Church, National Farmers Organization, Draft Horse Association, Whiting Rodeo Association, Rough Riders Saddle Club and participated in parades with River City Roundup Riders and Wagon Trains in South Dakota, Wyoming, Nebraska and Iowa. He enjoyed deer hunting in Nebraska.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Jane; a daughter and her husband, Tonya and Mark Riddle of Castana, Iowa; three sons and their wives, Monte and Brenda of Sloan, Ron and Madonna of Ponca, Neb., and Jeff and Cheri of Eustis, Neb.; nine grandchildren; and a brother and his wife, Gerald and Norma Jean of Sloan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter, Shauna; a brother, Ted; and a sister, Ellen Nielson.
