SIOUX CITY | Debra Ann Newland, 60, of Sioux City passed away Friday, Oct. 24, 2014, at a Sioux City hospital.

A celebration of life service will be 7 p.m. Monday at First Assembly of God Church in Sioux City. Private family graveside service will be prior to the service in Whiting Cemetery, Whiting, Iowa. Visitation will be 6 p.m. until service time Monday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City 4125 Orleans Avenue.

Debra was born in Tooele, Utah, on June 5, 1954, the daughter of Billie and Shirley (Larson) Newland. She moved to Sioux City at the age of 11 and had made Sioux City her home since that time. She graduated from Riverside High School with the class of 1972. Debra worked as a medical secretary in the health care setting for many years.

She was a certified clown known as Penelope Petunia. she was active in the Girl Scouts serving as a troop leader, troop organization and the neighborhood chairperson. She taught ceramics for many years and was a collector of angels. Debra loved music, and was known as being very organized and always wanted to help others.

She was a member of Riverside United Methodist Church. She recently began attending First Assembly of God Church. She also was an active member of Friendship House, served on the Riverside PAC committee, a member of the Neighborhood Network, and had formerly served on the City of Sioux City Parks and Recreation Board.

Debra is survived by her uncle, Jim Larson and his wife, Marge of St. Paul, Minn.; her aunts, Pat Irvin of Lincoln, Neb., and Marilyn Larson of Sloan, Iowa; her extended family in Utah; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and her many many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Erick; and sisters, Verda Newland, and Kathy Den Bestn.

Memorials in her name should be made to Friendship House.
