Arlene Eleonora Teut passed away on Sept. 1 at Mapleton Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton at the age of 93.

Arlene Eleonora Teut was born on May 11, 1921, the daughter of John and Emma (Schoenfeld) Christiansen. She was born on the family farm in Crawford County, Soldier Township. She was baptized, confirmed, and married at Immanuel Lutheran Church - Soldier Township.

Arlene attended country school at Soldier #3, parochial school at Immanuel Lutheran Church - Soldier Township, and graduated with the class of 1940 from Mapleton High School.

On Dec. 14, 1941, Arlene and Herbert Teut were married. They were blessed with the birth of four children, Judith, Gary, David, and Nancy. They farmed in Soldier Township north of Ricketts prior to retiring and moving to Mapleton in 1975.

Arlene and Herb were charter members of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Ricketts. After moving to Mapleton, they joined St. Matthew Lutheran Church. Arlene was a strong Christian woman and very active in the church that she attended. She served as a Sunday School and Confirmation teacher, participated in Bible studies, and was a very active member of the Ladies Aid Society and the Lutheran Woman’s Mission League, serving in many capacities, including district offices.

Her passions in her life were her Lord, her family and her friends. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and working in her garden and flowerbeds. She had a strong interest in genealogy and collected a great deal of information about the Schoenfeld, Christiansen, Wiedemann, and Teut families.

Arlene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Herbert; daughter, Judith Glover; grandson, Jason Teut; and sisters, Evelyn Teut and Betty Weifenbach.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Gary Teut (Kandi) of Schleswig and David Teut of Brainerd, Minn.; daughter, Nancy Bielenberg of Schleswig; son-in-law, Fred Glover of South Sioux City, Neb.; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; her sister, Marilyn Neddermeyer (Herman) of Ute; and brother-in-law, Gilbert Nihsen of Charter Oak.

The funeral service was Friday, Sept. 5, at 11 a.m. at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton with Pastor Scott Jensen presiding. Burial was in Crawford Height Memory Gardens in Denison.

Visitation was held from 9 a.m. until the start of the service on Friday, Sept. 5, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church.

Officiant was Pastor Scott Jensen. Message in Music was provided by Marlene Hight, organist, with congregational singing of “How Great Thou Art” and “I Know My Redeemer Lives.”

Pallbearers were Arlene’s grandchildren: Bret Glover, Nichole Glover, Fred Glover, Cori Teut Kragel, Joshua Teut, Nathan Teut, Megan Teut, Samuel Teut, Zachary Bielenberg, Adrienne Bielenberg Infanger.

Arrangements were under the direction of Armstrong Funeral Home of Mapleton.
