Merl C. Shultz, 89, of Onawa, Iowa died Monday, July 7, 2014 at Pleasant View Care Center, Whiting, Iowa.

Memorial Graveside services will be 10:30 A.M. Monday, July 21, 2014 at the Onawa Cemetery, Onawa, Iowa with Father Patrick O'Kane, Celebrant, Officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the Monona County VFW and David McNeill American Legion Post #129 of Onawa, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service, Onawa, Iowa

Merl Charles Shultz was born October 11, 1924 in South Dakota the son of Paul and Lola (Caldwell) Shultz. He grew up near Moorhead, Iowa and attended Moorhead Country School (Star School). He proudly served during World War II in the United States Army, and was stationed in the Philippines.

Merl and Rosalie "Rosie" Francis Warengo were united in marriage on May 7, 1949 at St. John's Catholic Church in Onawa, Iowa. Two children were born to this union, Eugene and Patricia.

Merl worked as a local plumber for over sixty years. He was a member of the Monona County VFW and the David McNeill American Legion Post #129 of Onawa, Iowa.

Merl enjoyed working and tinkering on all kinds of vehicles .

Merl was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, Onawa, Iowa.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Rosie of Onawa, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Dianna Shultz of Westfield, Iowa; son-in-law, Tom Young of Peoria, Arizona; five grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Lola; daughter, Patricia "Patty" Young; son, Eugene "Gene" Shultz; son-in-law, Richard Bumsted; and brother and sister-in-law, Ernest "Ernie" (Margaret) Shultz.
