Malden H. Pullen, lifelong resident of the Whiting, Iowa, community, died on September 4, 1984, in Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa, Iowa. Death came at the age of 73 years, seven months and 25 days.

He was born on January 10, 1911, in West Fork Township near Whiting to Gail and Zoe Hagan Pullen. He married Clara Jane Smith on June 21, 1939, in Whiting. She died August 7, 1972, in Onawa.

Malden was a farmer, manager of the Cashway Lumber in Sioux City and manager of the Whiting Lumber Yard until his retirement. He was a member of the United Church of Christ Congregational in Whiting and Weston Masonic Lodge No. 562 A.F. & A.M. of Whiting.

Survivors include one son, Gail Pullen of Kennewick, Wash.; two daughters, Mrs. Edward (Janice Marie) Black of Cupertino, Calif., and Mrs. Frederick (Linda Pearl) Johnson of Sloan, Ia.; 10 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and one brother, Don.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 7, 1984, at First Congregational UCC, Whiting, Iowa, with Rev. Thomas Guenther officiating. The organist was Mrs. E.B. Matthews and the soloist, Mrs. Larry Kisor, sang, "His Eye Is On The Sparrow". The congregation sang, "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God".

Casket Bearers were M.J. Whiting, Harold Heinle, Wayne Peterson, Zane Gulick, Wayne Copple and Richard Thomas.

Interment was in the Whiting Cemetery, Whiting, Iowa, with arrangements by Wood Funeral Home, Sloan, Iowa.
