ONAWA, Iowa — Warren Robert Poland, 77, of Onawa died Saturday, May 1, 1999, at Burgess Memorial Hospital.

Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Onawa Cemetery. The body was cremated. There will be no visitation. Pearson Funeral Home of Onawa is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Poland was born on May 9, 1921, in Onawa, the son of Elmer and Sarah (Cummins) Poland. He attended school in Onawa through the llth grade.

He joined the U.S. Army in 1942. During World War II he was a Message Center Clerk for the 3104 Battalion. After the war he returned to Onawa where he worked on a dredge for the Army Corps of Engineers on the Missouri and Mississippi rivers.

He was a member of the Onawa VFW Post 2694.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Adrian and Lonna of Granbury, Texas; three daughters and their husbands, Janis and Tommy Mason of Cottage Grove, Minn.; Lori and Gary Henneke of Katy, Texas; Birdie and Curtis Norby of Durant, Iowa; a stepson and his wife, Jim and Rhonda Hopkins of Bellville, Texas; and two stepdaughters, Mary Parr of Mitchell, S.D., and Vicki and her husband, Craig Mitchell of Edmonds, Wash.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Robert; a brother, Bill; a sister, Wilma; and a special friend, Kate Meadows.
