Opal B. Hittle, 89, of Onawa, Iowa, died Thursday, September 24, 1998, at Burgess Health Center in Onawa, Iowa.

Opal was born November 27, 1908, at Kennebec, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Minnie (Beatty) Payne. She attended country school in Monona County. On March 29, 1930, she married Claude "Bud" Hittle at Elk Point, South. Dakota. The couple farmed near Blencoe, Iowa, for 28 years and moved to Onawa in 1964. Mr. Hittle died October 5, 1993, in Onawa.

She was a member of First Christian Church and church circle and the Birthday Club.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband
Claudia and Michael Walker of Omaha, Nebraska; a son and his wife, Mack and Lynn of Prescott, Arizona; 6 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; 4 brothers, Forrest Payne, Merideth Payne, Ival Payne and Ralph Payne and 1 sister, Violet Claussen.

Services were held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 28, 1998, at the Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa, with Pastor Randall Coffin officiating. The organist, Mrs. Vince Phillips, accompanied the soloist, Mrs. Fred Gibson, in the selections "His Eye Is On The Sparrow" and "The New 23rd Psalm".

Bearers were Keith Payne, Jim Tyson, Larry Kreger and Richard Schlitter. Interment was in the Onawa Cemetery with arrangements by the Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa.
