ONAWA, Iowa — Corwin "Cotton" Hayden Johnson, 83, formerly of Onawa died Friday, April 25, 1997, at the Hearthstone Nursing Home in York, Neb.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Pearson Funeral Home in Onawa, with the Rev. Philip Olsen officiating. Burial will be in Onawa City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mr. Johnson was born Nov. 7, 1913, in Blencoe, Iowa, the son of Ortez and Myra (Hayden) Johnson. He graduated from Blencoe High School.

He married Helen LaVerne Hansen on July 15, 1936, in Blencoe. The couple resided in Onawa. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was then employed by the Coen Furniture Store, the Cliff Mankenberg Locker and the Co-op Service Station all in Onawa. He retired in 1975. She died May 6, 1982, in Onawa. He moved to York, Neb. 10 years ago.

He was a member of First Christian Church in Onawa and the American Legion David McNeill Pose 129.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Florence and Dennis Melby of York, Neb.; a son and his wife, Jerry and Lea of York; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
