ONAWA, Iowa — Ferd H. Stangel, 87, of Onawa died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 1997, at Elmwood Care Centre in Onawa.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. John's Catholic Church in Onawa, with the Rev. A.E. McCoy officiating. Burial, with military graveside rites by the Monona County VFW Post 2694, will be in the Onawa City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with a Scripture service at 7 p.m., at the Pearson Funeral Home in Onawa.

Mr. Stangel was born February 23, 1909, at Howells, Neb., to W.C. and Anna (Kline). He graduated from Howells High School in 1927. After high school, he traveled the United States with a dance band. He came to Onawa in 1938, and was a partner in Stangel Brothers Service Station. He entered Elmwood Care Centre in 1994.

He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church at Onawa. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII.

Survivors include a brother and his wife, Joseph and Ida of Onawa; three sisters, Wilma Nagengast of Newell, Iowa, Bertha Fiala of West Point, Neb., Clara Baumert of Howells; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three, brothers, Carl, Egan, and George; and a sister, Agnes Bogner.
