ONAWA, Iowa — Daniel N. Benjamin, 84, of Onawa died Monday, Sept. 16, 1996, at Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Catholic Church in Onawa. Burial will be in the Onawa Cemetery with military graveside rites by Monona County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2694. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, with a Scripture service and rosary at 7 p.m., at the Pearson Funeral Home in Onawa.

Mr. Benjamin was born Oct. 22, 1911, at Arrowhead, S.D., the son of Hayes L. and Theresa C. (Ryan) Benjamin. He lived in several towns in Iowa and South Dakota and graduated from Vermillion (S.D.) High School in 1930. He served with the U.S. Army in the European Theatre during World War II.

On July 16, 1968, he married Doris Hodges Jividen. He worked as a clerk in the Coast to Coast and Gambles Stores in Onawa and the Onawa Eagles Lodge. Mrs. Benjamin died June 8, 1995, in Onawa.

Mr. Benjamin was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Onawa, the David McNeill Post 129, American Legion, the Monona County VFW Post 2694 and the Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include a sister, Catherine Beckers of Bay City, Mich.; two stepdaughters and their husbands, Maurine and Richard Paseka of Onawa and Delores and Ruben Mungaray of Anchorage, Alaska; a granddaughter, Valerie Palmer and nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by three brothers, John, William and Charles and two sisters, Margaret Ross and Alice Twogood.
