Onawa, Iowa-- W. Wayne Virtue, 93, of Onawa died unexpectedly Saturday, Oct. 19, 1996, at Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa.

Graveside services will be 9:30 a.m. Friday at the Onawa Cemetery with Masonic services conducted by Ralph Livermore. Visitation will be 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Pearson Funeral Home in Onawa.

Mr. Virtue was born Dec. 3, 1902, at Glidden. He received his education in Danbury and Mapleton schools and graduated from Mapleton High School in 1920 and Iowa State College in 1926.

He married Ariel Hamil Moore in 1929. She died July 11, 1980.

He taught school in Moville and Peterson before moving to Onawa in 1937. He operated the International Harvester dealership in Onawa, until assuming the position of cashier with the Onawa State Bank. He retired in 1967.

Mr. Virtue had been active in Masonic functions for 67 years. He was past president of the Onawa Commercial Club, Onawa Kiwanis Club and the Onawa School Board. He served on the Onawa City Council and Cub and Boy Scout committees.

Survivors include two sons, Jack and Terry and his wife, Jeanne, all of Onawa, and two grandsons, Todd of Boston and Mark of Seattle.

Memorials may be given in his name to the Onawa Public Library.
