Kaethe S. Wonder, 63, of Onawa, Iowa, died Thursday, July 10, 1997, at her residence following a long illness.

Mrs. Wonder was born May 19, 1934, in Hof, Germany, the daughter of Johann Anton and Frieda (Klump) Schmid. She graduated from high school and attended Junior College in Hof. On April 23, 1955, she married Fredrick W. Wonder in Hof, Germany, and came to the United States with her husband after he completed his duty with the Air Force in Germany. They came to Onawa in October 1955 where they made their home. She became a U.S. citizen in 1967.

She worked in the family business, the Onawa Democrat, as office-manager and bookkeeper until her health failed.

She was affiliated with the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Onawa and a member of Queen Esther Chapter #222 Order of Eastern Star in Onawa, the Hathur Temple Daughters of the Nile of Sioux City, the David McNeil American Legion Auxiliary Post #129 of Onawa, the Onawa Women's Club, and the Abu Bekr Cyclettes of Sioux City.

Survivors include her husband, Fred of Onawa; a son and his wife, William and Kitty of Onawa, and a grandson, Fredrick, all of Onawa; 3 sisters Elsbeth Muehlherr of Lichtenfels, Germany, Irmgard Schubert of Hof, Germany, and Margit and her husband, Marvin Hale of Rapid City, South Dakota; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, and a niece, Susan Simpson.

Funeral Services were held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, July 12,1997, at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, Onawa, Iowa, with Rev. Earle R. Potts officiating. The organist was Mrs. Irvin Frisk.

Casket Bearers were Keith Hatt, Mike Johnson, Neil Leaply, Howard Nielsen, Adair Kaehlar, and Morris Satter.

Interment was in the Onawa Cemetery, Onawa, Iowa, with arrangements by Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa.
