WHITING, Iowa | Ruth I. Crawford, 98, of Whiting died Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2014, at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Whiting Christian Church, with the Rev. Jeff Thelander officiating. Burial will be in Harrison Cemetery, rural Whiting. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. until service time Friday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, Iowa.

Ruth Isabell Eaton was born on May 26, 1916, in Union, Neb. (Cass County), one of 11 children born to David Eli and Lennie Agnes (Mead) Eaton.

She was united in marriage to Lawrence Crawford on April 10, 1930, to which nine children were born.

Ruth was active in helping with the farm work. She loved gardening, quilting, and working with her flowers. Ruth was Whiting’s handy person in the 1980s, doing many things for the elderly. She loved to read and bought books for the Whiting Library as memorials. She also made and gave quilts to fire victims. Ruth was a member of the Willing Workers Club and served in various offices throughout the years. Ruth was also a member of the Dorcas Ladies at Whiting Christian Church for many years.

Survivors include five daughters, JoAnne Warner and Darlyne (John) Olson, all of Oceanside, Calif., Sharon Achord and Carolyn Dykhouse, both of Lakewood, Colo., and Vivian Bennett of North Platte, Neb.; one son, Dale Crawford of Onawa, Iowa; one daughter-in-law, Ella Crawford of Mountain Home, Ark.; two sisters, Goldie Hill of Percival, Iowa, and Janet (Don) Beccard of Bellevue, Neb.; 27 grandchildren; many great- and great-great-grandchildren; and extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; four brothers; four sisters; two daughters, Bonita and Irene; one son, Jerry; three sons-in-law; one daughter-in-law; and two grandsons.

Ruth will be greatly missed.
