Orland Charles Ferris, 88, of Onawa, Iowa, died Tuesday, October 28, 1997, at his residents in Onawa.

Mr. Ferris was born April 30, 1909, in Belgrade, Nebraska, the son of Carl and Ola (Reeves) Ferris. He lived in Nebraska until he moved at the age of 10 with his family to Mapleton. He graduated from Mapleton High School in 1928. On December 20, 1929, he married Dorothy Edwards at her parent's home in Ute, Iowa. The couple moved to Onawa in 1930 where they have continued to make their home. He was a mechanic for 20 years for Monona County, owned Ferris Road Construction for 20 years, and also farmed.

He was a member of First Christian Church in Onawa where he served on the Church, Board and taught Sunday School. He was a 50 year member of Vesper Lodge #223 A.F. & A.M. in Onawa, a member of Sioux City Consistory and Abu Bekr Shrine Temple. He served on the Onawa Park Board for 30 years, on the Onawa City Zoning Board, and was assistant Boy Scout Leader for many years and was still involved in Scouts.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy of Onawa; one son and his wife, Gordon and Dee of Onawa; one daughter and her husband, Nancy and Carl Linden of Whiting; 9 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and one brother Earl Ferris of Independence, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parent; two sisters, Mrs. Clarence (Opal) Malm and Mrs. Clifford (Nellie) Weidenthaler; and five brothers, Clell, Norris, Howard and infant twins.

Masonic services were held at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday evening, October 29, 1997, at the Pearson Funeral Home by Vesper Lodge #223 A.F. & A.M., Onawa, Iowa, Steve Jewett Orator. Lee Phipps was Worshipful Master.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 30, 1997, at the First Christian Church in Onawa with Pastor Donald R. Ludwick officiating. Mrs. Vince Phillips, organist, played the selection "In Times Like These" and accompanied the congregation in singing "Victory In Jesus".

Casket bearers were Dev Linden, Heath Nelson, Charles Ferris, Chuck Ferris, Adam Miller, Scott Linden, Vince Linden, Wayne Ferris, Bradley Ferris, Doug Ferris and Reid Linden.

Interment was in the Onawa Cemetery with arrangements by the Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa.
