CASTANA, Iowa — Donald Duane Davis, 72, of Castana died Tuesday, May 4, 1999, at Burgess Health Center in Onawa, Iowa.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at First Christian Church in Onawa, with the Rev. Donald R. Ludwick officiating. Burial will be in Heisler Cemetery, Mapleton, Iowa, Military rites will be conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Monona County Post 2694. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a Masonic service at 7 p.m. conducted by Vesper Lodge 223 A.F. & A.M., Onawa and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Pearson Funeral Home in Onawa.

Mr. Davis was born Jan. 7, 1927, in Mapleton, the son of Ira Lee and Vivian (Kenney) Davis. He attended school in Mapleton. He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II from 1943 to 1947.

He married Donna Ree F. Bush on Feb. 18, 1947, in Denison, Iowa. He was employed as a bricklayer. He worked for Haubrick Lumber Yard in Mapleton, Structural Design and Holstein Lumber Co. in Holstein, Iowa, and Russ Taylor Construction in Carroll, Iowa. He then was self-employed for awhile. He taught bricklaying at Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon, Iowa. Following his retirement, he worked in the detail department at Mac's Chevrolet in Mapleton.

He was a member of First Christian Church, where he served as an elder, Masonic Lodge and Veterans of Foreign Wars Monona Post 2694.

The couple conducted worship services at Center Heights in Onawa. He served on the city council in Castana.

Survivors include his wife; two sons and their wives, Don and Mary of Mapleton and Rick and Claudia of Sanborn, Iowa; a daughter and her husband, Donna and Jim Roycraft of Joplin, Mo.; a sister, Evelyn Plendel of Sioux City; his mother-in-law, Grace Bush; eight grandchildren, Brandy, Erin, Kevin, Kathleen, Stacy, Sean, Chris and Andy; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Dale; a son, Ralph; and a granddaughter, Abby Davis.
