Dorothy B. Carter, 74, of Sioux City died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2000, at a Sioux City nursing home following a lengthy illness.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Alex T. Washington officiating. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Heisler Cemetery, Mapleton, Iowa. Visitation will he 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mrs. Carter was born Feb. 21, 1926, in Mapleton, the daughter of Luther and Almenta (Powell) Bueoy. She moved with her family to Sioux City in 1931, and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1944.

She married Vernon F. Carter on Sept. 24, 1950, in Elk Point, S.D. She worked for several retail stores and later ran a day care in her home.

She actively worked for the Democratic Party in Woodbury County, Iowa.

Survivors include her husband; a son, Michael of Sioux City; two daughters, Kerry Kreuzer of El Paso, Texas, and Shannon and her husband, Steve McAllister of Spencer, Iowa; a brother, Merle Bueoy of California; a sister, Louise Clausen of Sioux City; and five grandchildren, Jaime and Patrick Kreuzer, Brian James O'Connor, Patrick Hansen and Jasmine Marie King.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and infant son, Kelly; two sisters and a brother.

Pallbearers will be Chad and Matthew Brockhaus, Randy and Aaron Huls, Dustin Clausen and Shane McMahan.
