MAPLETON, Iowa — Gayland C. Sadler, 57, of Mapleton, died Saturday, Sept. 25, 1999, at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mapleton, with the Rev. Edmund Tiedeman officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a vigil service at 7 p.m. at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.

Mr. Sadler was born Jan. 6, 1942, at Washta, Iowa, the son of Fred and Agnes (Barnard) Sadler. He grew up and was educated in the area graduating from Washta High School in 1960. He also attended Buena Vista College at Storm Lake, Iowa, graduating in 1965.

He married Mary Schmidt on June 12, 1965 at Cherokee, Iowa.

He was employed as a teacher at Lawton, Iowa from 1965 to 1970. He then taught at Assumption School in Davenport, Iowa. He moved to Mapleton, and he taught at Maple Valley School starting in 1971. He also coached football, wrestling, and track, for many years.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mapleton, and he enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife; three sons: Todd and his wife, Jill, of Mapleton, Brad of Ridgeland, S.C., and Mark of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa; a daughter, Michelle of Lincoln, Neb.; four grandchildren; a brother and his wife, Gordon and Barbra Sadler of Lower Lake, Calif.; a sister and her husband, Gleva and Arne Axelson of Alta, Iowa; and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
