Mapleton, Iowa--Linus Peter Brenner, 87, of Mapleton died Thursday, Sept. 16, 1999, at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mapleton, with the Rev. Edmund Tiedeman officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a vigil wake service at 7 p.m., followed by a rosary led by the Knights of Columbus, at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.
Mr. Brenner was born Dec. 25, 1911, at Mapleton, the son of Louis and Clara (Mah) Brenner. He grew up and was educated in the area, graduating from St. Patrick's Academy in Danbury, Iowa, in 1929.
He married Colette Rust on May 14, 1935, at Maple River, Iowa. The couple lived and farmed near Mapleton. Colette died on July 2, 1997.
He was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, and a third and fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also active in multiple community, political and farm organizations. He was instrumental in initiating West Central Development, and was Director of Midwest Drug and Alcohol Council. He was a member of the Mapleton Rotary, the Mapleton Club and the Willow Vale Golf Club. He enjoyed traveling.
Survivors include three daughters and their husbands: Mary and Herman Koithan of Woodbury, Minn., Maxine and Steve Jones of Portland, Ore„ and Mona and Dan Schuh of Fairmont; Minn.; a son and his wife: Clyde and Lenn Brenner of Mapleton, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; a brother, Walter Brenner, of Cherokee, Iowa; and a sister and her husband, Laura and Cornell Deeny, of Eagle Grove, Iowa; and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kristine Jones; and a sister; and two brothers.
