Young woman remembered by family and friends
Linda K. Hamman, age 43, of Mapleton, died Monday, July 31, 2000, at Onawa, Iowa.
Services were held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 3 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mapleton with Pastor Bob Fritzmeier, Rev. Edmund Tiedeman and Pastor Linda Boggs officiating. Burial was in St Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Mapleton. Music for the service was by Bonita Kane, organist, St. Mary's Choir, and the Ruth Girls sang, "Amazing Grace". A prayer service was held at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.
Linda Kay Hamman was born July 5, 1957, at Denison, Iowa, the daughter of Dale and Madaleine (Steckelberg) Campbell. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Mapleton where she remained a lifelong member. She graduated with the Maple Valley High School class of 1975. After graduating, she worked at Home Federal Bank in Sioux City, Iowa.
On November 5, 1977, Linda was united in marriage to Wayne Hamman at St. Peter's United Church of Christ. She worked at various Mapleton businesses including the Mapleton Press, Co-op, and the Maple Motel. She was most recently employed at Casey's General Store in Mapleton as Assistant Manager. She loved sports and was an avid bowler. She also enjoyed country music but the greatest pleasure in her life was found in her family.
Those survivors left to cherish Linda's memory include, Wayne, her husband of 22 years; one daughter, Carrie, who will be a sophomore at Iowa State University in Ames this fall; two sons, Corey and Cody, both living at home; her parents, Dale and Madaleine Campbell of Mapleton, Iowa; one sister, Lana Lundt and her husband, Marc of Cushing, Iowa and one brother, Roger Campbell and his wife, Molly of Bakersfield, California, along with many other relatives, neighbors, co-workers and very good friends.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Vernon and Michael Campbell.
Linda was admired for her strength and courage in such difficult times in recent years, however, through it all, you could still find her with a smile on her face. She will be deeply missed by all.
Honorary pallbearers were Linda's nephews, Michael McClain, Mark Hamman, Marshall Lundt, Nicholas Campbell, Aaron Knuth, Kurtis Schultz and Spencer Campbell.
Pallbearers were Ron Scheer, Bill Ortner, Ron Petersen, Lloyd Hamman, Dan Hieber, Den Ortner, David Rose and Don Lynn.
