FREMONT, Neb. — Tyler M. Cook, 8, of Fremont, formerly of Mapleton, Iowa, died Sunday, Aug. 30, 1998, at Children's Hospital in Omaha, Neb., of complications resulting from a near drowning at the Fremont State Lakes on Tuesday, Aug. 25.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Further services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton. The Rev. John Whalen will officiate both services. Burial will be in St. Marys Catholic Cemetery, Mapleton. Visitation will be 1 to 9 p.m. today, with a wake service at 7:30 p.m., at Moser Memorial Chapel. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service Tuesday at Moser Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Tuesday at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.

Tyler was born Jan. 11, 1990, in Ida Grove, Iowa, the son of James and Lorie Gross. He was adopted by Douglas and Christine Cook. He lived in Mapleton until moving to Fremont in 1995. Last year he had finished the second grade at Davenport Grade School.

He was a member of St. Patricks Catholic Church in Fremont. He was active in Cub Scouts and played in the summer baseball program.

Survivors include his adopted parents, Douglas Cook of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Christine Cook of Fremont; five brothers, Jason Cook of Hull, Iowa, Timothy and Adam Cook of Fremont and Jered and Jeff Gross of Spencer, Iowa; two sisters, Krystena Cook of Fremont and Jennifer Gross of Iowa; his grandparents, Roy and Grace LaFrentz of Galva, Iowa, Gene and Sharon Gross of Battle Creek, Iowa, Betty Gross of Holstein, Iowa, Norman and Wilma Smith of Council Bluffs, and Jerry and Sharon Tierney of Mapleton; and his great-grandmother, Loretta Schleis of Mapleton.

He was preceded in death by his natural parents and an uncle.
