Bruce A. Purchase, 62, Sioux City, Iowa, formerly of Onawa, Iowa, passed away August 28, 1984, at Marian Health Center, Sioux City, Iowa, after a brief illness.

He was born June 7, 1922, at Pierson, Iowa, to Fred and Jennie Purchase. He was raised in the
Pierson community and graduated in 1939 from Pierson High School.

During World War II he served his country in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946. In 1946 he moved to
Blencoe, Iowa, and married Evelyn Hime on October 14, 1946. He was employed with the Council Oak-National Tea Grocery Stores for 27 years. He was the store manager in Onawa; and, after moving to Sioux City in 1968, he was a grocery buyer for the
National Tea Company. He later was employed with Kaplan Wholesale: Rosenthal & Sons; and, for the past seven years, as a salesman for Freshway Fruit Company.

He was a member of the Morningside Presbyterian Church, the David McNeill American Legion Post No. 129 at Onawa, and the F.O.E. Aerie No. 2270 at Onawa.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Beverly of Onawa; one sister, Mrs. Helen Blair of Lohrvile, Ia.; one brother, Fred of Omaha; one aunt, Mrs. Gertrude Elliott of Cherokee, Ia.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Letha Sindt.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, August 31, 1984, at the United Church of Christ Congregational, Onawa, Iowa, with Rev. Don Stoll and Rev. Arthur Beumler officiating. The organist, Mrs. Robert Oehler, played, "Abide With Me" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere".

Casket bearers were Paul Rasmussen, Wray Wright, Warren Dunkle, Harold Hansen, Earl Mander and Virgil Sorenson.

Interment was in the Graceland Cemetery, Blencoe, Iowa, with Military Flag Presentation by David McNeil American Legion Post No. 129, Onawa, Iowa.

Arrangements were by Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa, Iowa.
